Dear Neighbor,
As another cold Chicago winter begins, my office is excited to kick off our annual Winter Clothing Drive! This year, we are partnering with Senator Graciela Guzman’s office, local mutual aid organizations, and small businesses to collect winter clothing to distribute to our neighbors in need.
We’re accepting donations of new or gently used winter gear through Tuesday, December 16. Items we’re collecting include:

🥾 Boots
🧣 Scarves
🧤 Gloves and Mittens
🧢 Hats
👶 And new diapers!
You can drop off donations at any of the following locations with marked donation boxes:

Property Tax Appeal Update
The Cook County Board of Review has reopened previously closed townships for appeals. West Chicago Township will be open for appeals for 10 days, from December 3 through Friday, December 12. Residents who have not previously filed an appeal can submit an appeal through December 12. If someone already filed an appeal, they cannot file another appeal.
Jefferson Township, which is also currently open for appeals, will close as originally scheduled on Friday, December 19.
Appeal decisions made during this tax session will be reflected in 2026 Second Installment property tax bills and will not change 2024 bills. Residents are appealing the assessed value of their property, which could potentially lead to lower tax bills in the future.

Aspira Town Hall
Aspira’s leadership team will be hosting a town hall for parents, students, staff, and community to voice their concerns, ask questions, and share ideas. Please complete the survey prior to the meeting. You can access the survey through the QR code on the flyer.

Get Covered Illinois Healthcare Enrollment
Open Enrollment on the ACA Health Insurance Marketplace started on November 1, and the deadline to enroll for healthcare coverage at the start of 2026 is December 15.
Stop by our district office on Tuesday, December 9 from 12 to 4pm to chat with a Healthcare Navigator from Get Covered Illinois! They can help with checking your eligibility for a healthcare plan, comparing plans if you are considering changing your current plan for 2026, and creating an account to enroll in coverage.
1st Ward Holiday Gift Drive
In partnership with elementary schools throughout the ward, Alderman Daniel La Spata’s office is hosting a holiday gift drive for families who could use support this holiday season. Learn more on how you can support, and view the wishlist for families here. The drive will be collecting gifts until Friday, December 12. You can also help wrap gifts at the 1st Ward office, 1958 N Milwaukee, on Saturday, December 13 from 12 to 4pm.
