Public Safety Updates

Dear Neighbor,

Our office has heard many concerns about public safety across the 39th District. I more than empathize with these concerns as a resident of the district myself. We all deserve to feel safe in our communities, and I know ensuring this requires a range of short-term and long-term strategies that we collectively must take on.

I wanted to share that our office is working with others at the city and state levels, as well as with violence prevention organizations to address public safety throughout the district. We plan on hosting an event in September for community stakeholders to speak on strategies and provide updates. I will be sure to share more details with you as they form, and I hope to see you then.

For further information, the 39th IL House District consists of the following four police districts:

  • 14th District – Shakespeare

  • 16th District – Jefferson Park

  • 17th District – Albany Park

  • 25th District – Grand Central

I encourage my neighbors to attend monthly Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability District Council meetings and Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy and Beat Meetings to engage in discussions of public safety and for immediate updates.

CCPSA District Council Meetings in September:

  • 14th District: Saturday, September 2 at 1pm at Chicago Public Library, Humboldt Park Branch, 1605 N Troy St.

  • 16th District: Tuesday, September 12 at 6:30pm Eden Church, 5051 W Gunnison St.

  • 17th District: Thursday September 21, at 7pm at Roosevelt High School, 3436 W. Wilson Ave.

  • 25th District: Tuesday September 26, at 6pm Vegan World Cafe, 5419 W North Ave.

All my best,
Alyssa
Chief of Staff

Illinois Secretary of State Skip-the-Line Program

Appointments and new extended hours are part of the new initiative to save customers’ time. In an effort to improve customer service and eliminate the unpredictability of wait times at Illinois DMVs, Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias will implement the Skip-the-Line program on September 1.

The Skip-the-Line Program includes:

Appointment scheduling: Customers will be required to make appointments for in-person visits at 44 of the busiest DMVs. All Chicago and suburban locations and select central and downstate DMVs will require an appointment for REAL IDs, driver’s licenses and ID card services, and in-car driving tests.

Vehicle-related services, such as titles, registrations or license plate renewals, do not require an appointment.

Please visit ilsos.gov or call (844) 817-4649 to schedule an appointment.

New extended hours of operation: Every DMV will extend hours of operation beginning September 1. Select facilities will be open six days a week – Monday through Saturday. All DMVs will have hours of operation from Mon-Fri, 8 am-5:30 pm. 16 DMVs will be open on Saturday, 8 am-12:30 pm. Please visit ilsos.gov for location information.

Simplified online services: Customers are encouraged to visit ilsos.gov to take advantage of many online services, including renewals of driver’s licenses, ID cards, and plate stickers.
