Winter Recap in the 39th District ❄️🌷

Dear Neighbor,

Spring is around the corner, and as we eagerly await its arrival, I wanted to take this opportunity to share some exciting updates on where my office has been throughout the district so far this year.

In January, we had the pleasure of celebrating with Hermosa Neighborhood Association at the launch of their youth programming space, Creative Cove. It was inspiring to witness the impact of R3 grants firsthand and to be a part of the festivities marking the opening of this space for youth to learn, develop new skills, and foster meaningful connections within their community.

I visited two 8th grade social studies classes at Goethe Elementary to discuss the responsibilities of a state representative and the process of passing legislation. It was a wonderful time engaging with these bright students.

In February, my office attended the public safety town halls in the 1st and 30th wards, to continue the conversation and collaboration on strategies from the city, state, police, and violence prevention organizations.

We joined The People’s Lobby for their Care Over Cost Town Hall, where over 70 neighbors gathered for thought-provoking dialogue on challenges related to accessing healthcare, navigating claims denials, support from the IL Department of Insurance, and upcoming legislation aimed at improving healthcare access.

I also had the honor of joining Here To Stay Community Land Trust and many incredible neighbors, organizations, and leaders to unveil a beautiful, newly-renovated, affordable home. This is the 4th home purchased through the land trust, and I’m grateful to have worked alongside our communities to secure state funding in this effort towards affordable homeownership, communal ownership of the land, and investments that will transform generations.

I joined Governor Pritzker at The Fields to announce a $5 million grant, investing in arts and culture at the soon to be largest film and TV soundstage in the Midwest.

I look forward to continuing to see neighbors at community events throughout the district on the weeks when I’m not in Springfield for session. I’ll be sure to keep you posted on legislative updates as they unfold!

All my best,
Will
