Dear Neighbor,

As my office has hosted annual job fairs each December, we’ve seen firsthand how many constituents, as well as community members across the city, are looking for stable, meaningful employment that provides livable wages. My office remains committed to connecting neighbors with new career opportunities year-round. This week’s newsletter highlights several local employers and the open positions they’re currently offering, hoping to help kick off the year on a new, exciting career path. 

Government Agencies

  • IL Dept. of Transportation: Interested in keeping Illinois moving? The State of Illinois offers a wide range of transportation careers for nearly all skill and education levels. Whether you're maintaining roadways, managing infrastructure projects, or operating essential equipment, your work helps connect communities and support statewide mobility.

  • IL Dept. of Labor is looking for a Division Chief for its Wage Transparency and Construction Compliance Division.

  • IL State Board of Education is hiring a Web Developer based in Springfield or Chicago.

  • IL Dept. of Revenue is hosting a statewide employment webinar to help improve on interview techniques on Friday, January 30, at 9:30am. Register here.

  • The Chicago Board of Elections is looking for paid Election Judges to manage precinct polling places and assist voters during the March 17, 2026 Midterm Primary Election.

Nonprofit Organizations

  • Onward House, a community-based wraparound service organization on Chicago's Northwest Side, is hiring for several teaching, administrative, and early childhood support positions.

  • New Life Centers provides intensive, community-based mentoring programs for youth and their families in the Little Village, Humboldt Park, Pilsen and Brighton Park communities of Chicago, and they also have a variety of open positions. 

  • The Network works to improve the lives of those impacted by gender-based violence through education, public policy and advocacy, and connecting community members with direct service providers. They are looking for a Managing Attorney and a Survivor Fund Application Specialist Contractor.

  • Citizen Action/Illinois is a statewide progressive policy and political coalition looking for a Program Associate and a Digital Associate. 

  • CARPLS is a legal aid nonprofit, serving Cook Coun⁠t⁠y and Ill⁠i⁠no⁠i⁠s. They are currently hiring for a Staff Attorney.

Healthcare Opportunities 

  • Cook County Health is a talented group of individuals who are dedicated to providing quality care to vulnerable and underserved populations with compassion and integrity. They are hiring for several healthcare and administrative roles.

  • ASI Home Care is always on the lookout for compassionate, honest, and intuitive caregivers, and they are hiring for Home Care Aides Full-Time and Part-Time and RN Visiting Nurses.

Policy Positions

  • Chinese American Service League focuses on public policy that advances equity for Asian American and immigrant communities, and they are hiring for a Senior Policy Analyst.

  • Illinois Environmental Council works to ensure that the collective voice of Illinois’ environmental community is amplified in public policy debates and legislative action. IEC is looking for a Policy Manager.

Opportunities with the Trades

  • GreenCorps Chicago is currently looking for interested individuals for their 2026 job training program for environmentally-related jobs. GreenCorps Chicago provides on the field training, and resources to help their trainees be prepared for a job at the end of the program. 

  • Solar Energy Jobs Training: This hands-on program prepares you for entry-level careers in the growing solar industry with classroom instruction, real-world lab experience, and industry-recognized credentials. Apply today!

  • The IL-Works Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program offers FREE hands-on training, industry certifications, student support, and bi-weekly stipends—no experience needed. Open to Illinois residents 18+. Learn more and apply here.

  • Greater West Town has two vocational programs: Shipping & Receiving and Wood Products Manufacturing, where you can build verifiable, technical skills. GWTP’s courses are at no cost to eligible applicants, 12 weeks long, and taught by experienced and supportive instructors. Job placement services, transportation assistance, and other supportive services are provided in training. Upcoming Job Fairs

  • The UHCHI Job Fair 2026 will be held on Wednesday, February 18, from 10am to 2pm at McCormick Place - Lakeside Center: Room E271, 2301 S Lake Shore Drive. Explore new paths, connect directly with top employers, and network with industry leaders at Chicago's premier hospitality career event. 

  • Metro Family Services Workforce Winter Hiring Event will be on Wednesday, February 4, from 10am to 1pm, at MFS Jones Center, 6422 S. Kedzie. We’re excited to connect you with a variety of employers who are actively hiring for full-time, part-time, and entry-level positions across multiple industries. This event is designed to help you explore job opportunities, meet recruiters face-to-face, and possibly secure on-the-spot interviews.

Coordinated Entry Housing Assessment 

Chicago’s Coordinated Entry System is a centralized process to connect people experiencing homelessness in Chicago with housing and supportive services. Coordinated Entry does not provide immediate housing placement, and is not a guarantee of housing, but is a potential housing pathway and an opportunity to be connected to resources to help resolve a housing crisis.

A Coordinated Entry Mobile Access Point partners with Lutheran Social Services of Illinois’s Portage Cragin Counseling Center, 4840 W Byron, Chicago IL to offer onsite housing assessments. Services are available in English and Spanish and can be provided in other languages via an interpreter.


Power of Attorney Clinic in Spanish

On Thursday, January 29, at 1:30pm, the Northwest Center, in collaboration with CARPLS, is organizing a clinic where CARPLS attorneys will be available to help you prepare Property and Health Power of Attorney documents and answer your questions, completely free of charge. This event will be at 5233 W Diversey Ave. and held in Spanish.


Haas Park Art Program

Haas Park winter art classes run from February 2 through March 17, and spring classes are in 2 cohorts from March 30 to April 28 and from May 11 to June 8. Drawing, ceramics, and watercolor painting classes for youth, adults, and seniors will be offered.

All art classes take place at the park at 2402 N. Washtenaw, Chicago IL 60647 and are taught by Carol Tarnoff, a Chicago Park District Arts Partner, with over twenty five years experience teaching art to children and adults.
