📢🌮Join our upcoming Legislative Town Hall!

Before we go on to the main topic of our newsletter, a quick note: In the midst of our legislative wrap-ups of the last few weeks, we didn’t stop to acknowledge the tragic assassination of my colleague Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband in Minnesota, and the attempted assassination of Minnesota Sen. John Hoffman and his wife. Melissa was a remarkable legislator and by all accounts a fantastic person, and the people of that great state are impoverished by her loss. We pray for a full recovery for John and Yvette.

On a personal note, it’s hard not to be shaken by this. And when you connect these murders with the manhandling of a US Senator and the brutal detention of New York’s comptroller, you start to see a pattern. Armed agents of the state and vigilantes are using brute force and violence to silence elected officials who are critical of the regime. It’s an eerie time to be in politics. But I want you to hear it from me: I won’t be silent. I’ll do everything I can to keep my family safe, but I’ll keep speaking out against this administration’s wholesale shredding of our Constitution and the harms their brutal policies will cause all of us. I hope you won’t be silent either. We’ll need all our voices to save our democracy.
