The autumn equinox is this week, bringing crisp, cooler days and a cozier season as we spend more time indoors. As we welcome the change in seasons, my office is looking to bring accessible health services directly to our neighborhoods.
My office is partnering with State Sen. Graciela Guzman, 35th Ward Alderman Anthony Quezada, and the Kosciuszko Park Advisory Council for our annual Fall Family Health Fair. This year’s fair will be on Saturday, October 17, from 10am to 1pm at Kosciuszko Park, 2732 N Avers Ave. It's a great chance to get a free flu shot, free blood pressure and cholesterol screenings, free dental checks for kids, and much more.
Our health fair will offer a variety of free health services and resources to the community, including:
Flu shots for all ages at no cost*
Free dental health exams and cleanings for kids
Free blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol screenings
Information on healthcare open enrollment
We’ll also have free family-friendly activities offered at the park, including:
Free hot cocoa and coffee*
Free kids’ haircuts
Rain barrel raffle
And more!

Last Working Family Office Hours
Join us on Tuesday, September 29 for our last Working Family Office Hours this summer! My district office, at 3001 N Central Park Ave, will be open from 12 to 7pm for assistance with state agencies and resources for those who aren't able to come by during traditional work hours.
The Greater Chicago Food Depository will also be onsite to assist with SNAP benefits. And my staff can help with other state programs, like Unemployment, Medicaid, state licensure, transit benefits for seniors, DMV services, food pantry resources, and more.

Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program
This is the sixth round of grants from the Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program, which launched in 2021 to ensure candidates from a wide-range of backgrounds had equal access to construction and building trades apprenticeship education. So far, the program has awarded $70 million serving over 7,000 residents.
Qualified entities can apply for grants between $150,000 to $550,000. Applications will be accepted until October 2nd at 5pm. To learn more and apply for the grant, visit the DCEO website: dceo.illinois.gov/aboutdceo/grantopportunities/2614-4323.html.
Disaster Relief Assistance Program
The Disaster Relief Assistance Program provides a one-time reimbursement to qualifying Chicagoans who experienced hardship due to severe storms. Due to limited funding, priority is given to applications from zip codes most impacted, renters, and seniors age 60+. Interested parties can learn more and apply here.
Vital Records Event
The federal government is moving toward new hurdles around citizenship records and voter registration, and we want to make sure residents are prepared. The City of Chicago and Cook County are teaming up to offer a one‑stop event where people can get certified birth certificates and register to vote.

1st Ward City Key Printing Event
On Wednesday, September 30, from 11am to 2pm. 1st Ward Alderman Daniel La Spata and the City Clerk’s Office will be hosting a CityKey event at St. Aloysius - Thiele Center, 1510 N Claremont Ave. Scheduling an appointment is required, and you can do so here.
The Chicago CityKey is an optional, free, government-issued photo ID card available to all Chicago residents, regardless of age, housing status, or immigration status. It functions as a 4-in-1 card: a valid government-issued photo ID, a Chicago Public Library card, a Ventra transit card, and a prescription drug discount card. The CityKey opens doors for many individuals who do not have another form of identification that would allow them to open a bank account, rent an apartment, apply for a building permit, and more.
