Jefferson Township is open for Cook County Assessor Appeals, and the deadline is October 3rd. The majority of the 39th District is within the 8th District of Cook County and Jefferson Township. You can check on which Cook County district you live in here.

I want to use this newsletter to share a few opportunities on how you can get assistance with appealing your property tax.

You can:

  • Appeal online, with help from this video

  • Schedule an appointment with the Assessor's office downtown or in Skokie by calling 312-443-7550 or using their online system.

  • Schedule an appointment with Cook County Commissioner Jessica Vasquez‘s office, Monday through Friday, from 9:00am to 5:00pm by calling 312-603-6386.

You can also attend one of the following appeal workshops.

Commissioner Vasquez is partnering with Northwest Side elected offices and organizations for a Jefferson Township Property Assessment Appeal Workshop on Tuesday, September 23, from 5 to 7pm at 5233 W Diversey Ave. RSVP is required, so please call (312) 603-6386 to make an appointment.

My office is partnering with Commissioner Cardenas of the Cook County Board of Review, Alderwoman Ruth Cruz, State Rep. Lindsey LaPointe, Commissioner Vasquez for a property tax appeal workshop at Gray Elementary, 3730 N Laramie on Wednesday, October 1 from 5-7pm. At the workshop, residents in Jefferson Township can receive assistance with filing property tax appeals and ask any general questions on the property tax system.

Fall Family Health Fair

I’m proud to partner with Congresswoman Delia Ramirez, State Sen. Graciela Guzman, Alderman Anthony Quezada, and the Kosciuszko Park Advisory Council for our annual Fall Family Health Fair. This year’s fair will be on Saturday, October 18, from 9am to 12pm at Kosciuszko Park, 2732 N Avers Ave.

Our health fair will offer a variety of free health services and resources to the community, including:

  • Flu shots for all ages at no cost*

  • Covid-19 and RSV vaccines with insurance*

  • Free blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol screenings

  • Free dental kits for kids*

  • Free HIV and STI testing

  • Information on Medicare open enrollment

We’ll also have a variety of free family-friendly activities offered at the park, including: 

  • Free produce*

  • Free hot cocoa and coffee*

  • Arts and crafts

  • Games

*While supplies last, given out on a first come, first serve basis!


Driving Change Virtual Town Hall

Through the Driving Change: Auto Insurance Rates campaign, the Illinois Secretary of State is trying to address the insurance industry’s use of unfair, socio-economic factors like age, credit score, and zip code in establishing how much people pay for car insurance. They will be hosting their fourth townhall on Monday, September 22 at 6pm, focusing on constituents from the West Side of Chicago. RSVP here: ilsos.gov/DrivingChangeSchedule.


2025 Illinois Tax Amnesty

Taxpayers have the opportunity to pay outstanding eligible tax liabilities and have related penalties and interest forgiven, provided the taxes are paid in full during the amnesty period.

An eligible tax liability is tax debt due from periods ending after June 30, 2018, and prior to July 1, 2024.

Eligible tax liabilities and returns must be paid and filed in full October 1, 2025, through November 17, 2025, to qualify for the waiver of penalty and interest.

Second Chance Summit

The Clerk of the Circuit Court Mariyana Spyropoulos is hosting the 2025 Second Chance Summit on Saturday, October 11 from 8:30AM to 4:00PM at Proviso Math and Science Academy, 8601 Roosevelt Rd, Forest Park, IL. This is an opportunity for community members to begin the process of expunging or sealing their criminal records, as well as participate in a resource and job fair.
