Q: What's your name and position at Busy Beaver Button Company?
A: Christen Carter, Owner and President
Q: How long have you been in the neighborhood?
A: Since 2004 (I started the company in 1995), before that we were at Western Ave and Bloomingdale.
Q: What do you want our community to know about Busy Beaver Button Company?
A: We make pin-back buttons here in Logan Square, as few as 50 as many as a million! We're part of the community, we’d love for you all to come visit our Button Museum (online and in person).
Q: What’s your favorite summer activity in Chicago?
A: Lunch in the back yard, walking around the neighborhood, and biking around town.
Q: What positive attributes does Busy Beaver Button Company bring to the community?
A: We support and work with other local people, like the Association House, give tours to schools and various groups and just buy things from local businesses. Busy Beaver also hires a lot of artists from the neighborhood. It’s such a great area with loads of nice people up to interesting stuff, we’re lucky! Plus, we have the world’s largest button (3 feet) out front as our sign, greeting everyone a “Hello”.
Q: What's your favorite button you've ever designed?
A: We mostly make buttons from other people’s designs, but really there are so many, it’s hard to choose. I’m really into the current Button-o-Matic series, these are vending machines that sell 1 inch buttons designed by artists. Currently it’s a Smiley theme, including lots of great local artists, like Carrie Vinarsky. There are over 20 in the city, including Lula Cafe and Saki in our neighborhood.
